Have any of you ever lost your blogging mojo?
I must admit, mine has disappeared like the British summer sun.
When I get out of a habit, I find it very hard to get back into it again. When we were working towards moving in there was a goal and a sense of purpose, but now we've done it we're, quite frankly, exhausted.
Just over four years of full-time jobs and rest-of the-time-renovations are hard work on the body. Exceeded budgets are hard on the brain and the heart. Despite the joy of finally being able to move in and the contentment of actually being there, the desire to fall into bed (and sleep!) is greater than the desire to celebrate.
I'm going to save that small celebration for Christmas, when we hope to have a little bit of mojo for life back!
Lights are my favourite part of the house as the first signs of my favourite season approach. Each of them were sale items that we spotted over several months and in different stores. Fashions change so quickly that shops change their stock on a regular basis. So, if you're interested in what you like, rather than just trends, wait for the sale!
And don't forget about Ikea for roller blinds!!
This is not a 'loads of money' house, it's about getting the best you can for the least amount kind of place.
I'll leave you with one of my favourite Christmas presents. He personifies how we feel. He lives in our bedroom. (I'd be reluctant and frightened to tell you how old he is, but US folks may remember him.)
I know exactly how you feel; worn out. I have struggled to keep going with my blog several times in the past hectic year, fearing that I was becoming dull and/or repetitious, but it's always been commenters, some of whom have emailed me with encouragement, that brought me back. And suddenly I feel interested in it again. Just give yourself some time off, but don't forget us - we'll be waiting for you when you feel up to it again!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel
DeleteYes you're right, and there are so many people I have never met but would very much miss if I gave up blogging.

Moving is supposed to be one of the most stressful things in life and to do all that renovating etc as well as working full time over such a long time as well it's not surprising you have lost your mojo. Just let it all go like the dog in your last picture and eventually you will get your energy back and feel more like blogging - you have done wonders with your house let that be enough for now! Hope you will be very happy in your new home too of course.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane
DeleteThank you very much for those encouraging words! We have some 'special' champagne which we said we'd drink when we moved in... it's still in the box :o(

I have noticed alot of of my favorite bloggers have gotten quieter over the summer.... I think we are all busy ~ and the longer days just keep us going longer and make us tired-er (it's not a real word, but it's true!) :))) I also think our zest for blogging comes and goes too ~ I have found myself a bit speechless of late also. Perhaps Autumn will bring about renewed spirits?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your light with the colorful baubles ~ Most Excellent! :)))))
Hi Mel
DeleteYes, perhaps it is something to do with the longer days. I can't even blame it on the weather - it's been a rubbish summer. Hope yours was better!

It is wonderful to 'see' you! I totally understand how you feel. Moving should be a time of rejoicing ... but it really is a great relief. I am really glad to hear that you are getting settled, and very pleased to hear thAt you are HOME.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie
DeleteYes it is a relief, even although it's not quite finished. I still wander round the rooms and remember what they looked like at their worst. Thank you for your lovely comments over that time! And of course, you have your own project which I'm looking forward to following.

Yes, my Mojo has been on walkabout too recently Dan, so I understand perfectly.
ReplyDeleteLove the wonderful chandeliers, and the blind is really pretty - though, sorry I have no idea who the dog is! (But is is lovely.)

P.S. So pleased you are now 'in' and settled, wishing you much peace, happiness and contentment in your home :o)
Hi Rose
DeleteWe're really pleased with the chandeliers. We were worried they might look a bit much, but the high ceilings carry them off so well. The dog is an American cartoon character call 'Foofur'. I didn't know that until a few years after I got him. I just love him and he always reminds me of my mum. She really wasn't partial to him herself, but I kept seeing him in the toyshop in town week after week and saying how much I liked him. Despite her dislike, she must have relented in the end as he was a surprise Christmas present.
Thanks for the good wishes!

I'm so glad you're in and settled. No wonder you;re worn out. I know I am, after just 18 months of living on a building site.
ReplyDeleteWork came to a grinding halt this spring, when Husband started working away from home and my brother bought a huge country property in Sussex.
Roll on Chrsitmas, it's always a special time, your first chrsitmas in a new home xx
Hi Kath
DeleteIt's nice to talk to someone in the same position. Although it's not a tragedy or disaster (just the opposite) it does take over any semblance of a normal life. When I look out of the windows at the view, and the beautiful walks we have on our doorstep, it makes it worth the effort. You must feel the same with the beautiful Tor so close by.

It looks like there is a Mojo exodus as mine has done a runner too! You will settle your new home and be able to enjoy it as soon as you regain some energy after all that hard work, loving your recent buys they look wonderful x
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetpea
DeleteGlad it isn't just me! It probably is just lack of energy, or too many other things to do.

I understand totally how you feel. I felt exhausted by the time we moved into our house. For a time I didn't even like it very much, I felt it had taken everything from us and left us feeling like a pair of old wrecks! I'm happy to say the feeling didn't last!
ReplyDelete'Blogging without obligation' You can find it here http://www.tartx.com/blog/?page_id=233 - I hope the link works. If not google it. I liked the sentiments behind it.
Your new home looks beautiful. A huge sense of relief mixed with exhaustion. I'm sure it will all have been worth it though. x
Hi Annie
ReplyDeleteThat's probably the best way I've ever heard a longer-term renovation described.
The house was a wreck, and now we are - but only temporarily! I'll have a look at the article.

My blogging (and tweeting) mojo comes and goes quite a lot. Sometimes, I fear I'm getting repetitious or am going off the point. Sometimes one is just quieter altogether. It usually comes back at some point. Remember that your blog is for you not your readers, fundamentally.
ReplyDeleteHi Dan,
ReplyDeleteAfter Daisy died, I almost killed all of the blogs. Instead, I closed some if them to the public and started focussing on my real world. I rediscovered baking, which is an inexpressible joy! I haven't written any poetry, but I have created a new blog ( of course) to share all of my recipes. It's basically the only one I write for now, but I rarely visit any.
Would love to have a chat. I know the anti-climax of a move, if not the building process.

Congratulations on moving into your new home Dan. It's been a long haul for you I know but its been great following your journey and going the distance with you. Take a rest, enjoy your beautiful new home and return to your blog when you are ready.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a certain amount of energy to keep a blog going and to keep it fresh and interesting, but on the other hand I do agree with hasenschneck's comment too. I certainly lost my blog mojo during the summer in preference for getting on with real life and I hardly visited at all. Perhaps the change in season will get us all up and blogging again!
